2007 Toyota Cup Injury/Emergency Plan

October 2007

Dear Participants:

Welcome to Aberdeen and the 2007 State High School Soccer Tournament!

The Aberdeen Soccer Association and Avera St. Luke’s Sports Medicine will be providing medical services for the 2007 State High School Soccer tournament. The 2007 High School Tournament Medical Team (STMT) will consist of the 2007 High School Tournament Medical Director and certified athletic trainers. The First Aid Room will be located in the Avera trailer by the concessions area at the Moccasin Soccer Complex. The athletic trainers will have first aid supplies with them to perform assessment and care on the field as necessary. Ambulance services will be provided by the Avera St. Lukes Hospital if needed during the tournament.

With safety foremost we request all coaches to inform parents, players, and other spectators not to enter the field when an injured player is down so that the medical team can perform their duties. The coach or team representative is welcome to enter the field at the discretion of the referee. Our medical personnel have full authority to treat or recommend medical care as appropriate.

Any player, coach, or parent who wishes to refuse treatment may do so. However we will require refusal to treatment on a designated form obtained through athletic trainers or medical staff.

Teams with their own medical care provider must be registered in advance along with proof of credentials to the Tournament Director. Registration of team medical care providers may take place at the team check-in or at 7 a.m. through 9:00 am at head quarters at which time a badge will be issued for identification.

Protocol for Medical Care Assistance:
1. Injuries occurring on the field
a. Notify the Field Marshall assigned to your field as they will have cell phones to contact the athletic trainers if needed.
b. When unsure of the extent of the injury which may involve the head, neck and/or back, leave the injured person where they are until help arrives.

2. For injuries on the complex but not on the field of play
a. Notify the closest Field Marshall who will communicate the problem to the athletic trainer
b. Send a bystander to the treatment room to request assistance

3. Medical Services Provided:
a. Treatment and assistance for emergent and non-emergent care for injuries sustained on the Moccasin Soccer Complex during the 2007 State High School Soccer Tournament.
b. Wrapping/taping of extremities by certified athletic trainers. There may be a small fee associated with this service if the players do not provide their own tape.
c. Ice packs for injuries
d. Water

Best of Luck to all teams participating in the 2007 Tournament!!
