The SDSSA Dakota Development League is designed to provide more local and appropriate competition to teams in South Dakota and surrounding communities. Typically teams in our state travel great distances to find meaningful games for our youth to play. The 'DDL' is organized to bring meaningful games to your area and provide quality competition that compliments local, in-town matches, with other rural and recreational associations of the same ability level. The league's focus is providing qualitative matches to enhance the development of our players, not to keep standings and declare a state league champion.
When and Where are the games played?
Once registered, divisions will be formed, and then game match-ups will be determined. Sites and dates for the Development League are:
- April 30th (Sunday) in Mitchell & Brookings (teams will select the site they want to play at)
- May 7th (Sunday) in Aberdeen
- May 21st (Sunday) in Watertown
What age groups can participate in the Development League?
- Teams registered with SDSSA in the 10U-19U Boys and Girls divisions
**This year we are also introducing the 19U and 16U 7v7 Coed Divisions for small associations (games will be played on a 12U field).
What is the cost to participate in the Development League?
Registration fee is $50 per team per weekend plus referee expenses per game**. Registration fee is due in the online registration process.
Registration deadline is April 3rd.
This $50 registration fee covers:
· League administrator, league scheduler, and referee assignor fees.
· The fee must be submitted/received by the league administrator prior to a team’s inclusion in the schedule.
**Each team will pay ½ the referee game fee and per diem cost. The league administration will bill referee fees to each club. All fees should be paid by the team’s club.
How many games would my team get?
The opportunities for games is abundant, but this is dependent on other teams and organizations and their commitment to the league. Your registration fee guarantees two games per site, but if we are unable to provide competition that is appropriate for your team you will be notified with options for the weekend. If your team receives fewer than two games at the site you will be reimbursed your registration fee and only be held responsible for referee fees. If you cancel, or forfeit, after the schedule is released your fee will not be refunded and you will be held responsible for any referee expenses SDSSA incurs (including but not limited to rescheduling fees, no-show fees, etc).
What if the weather forces games to be cancelled?
Make up games will be handled on a game by game basis. The hosting organization is responsible for determining the safety of field conditions, as well as the referee crews assigned to matches. The Development League director will work to makeup all games lost through weather cancellation if possible, and weather related refunds will be calculated after any fees from the State Referee Committee are assessed.
