SD United Legacy competes well in National Championship Tournament
The South Dakota United Legacy Under 16 Girls went to Auburndale, Florida representing South Dakota Soccer and all of Region 2 at the National Championships for the 2013 President’s Cup.
On the first day, the Legacy found success with a well-played 1-0 victory over FASA Impact Premiere from Virginia. In their second game, the girls from South Dakota lost to the eventual champions, the Albion Hurricanes from Texas, by a score of 2-0. Still in the hunt for a spot in the championship game, SD United dropped a heartbreaker to the Rush Swoosh of Colorado 2-0.
Legacy went to the consolation game and was defeated by FASA Impact Premiere 2-1. However the tournament ended on a high note with the ladies from South Dakota earning the Fair Play Award for U16 Girls, given to the team best representing themselves with showing good sportsmanship and poise. That truly is an honor for this team, coached by Jason Bartels of Watertown.
Everyone around the state is thrilled to see one of our own teams make it to a national championship tournament, and then to compete well and come home with a well-deserved honor. The South Dakota State Soccer Association is very, very proud of you.
