State Tourneys Explained

SDSSA will sponsor the following tournaments for the 2010 spring season:

1.) Kohl's American Cup - U10 teams -each team is guaranteed two games each day in a festival format - all players will receive participation awards. Teams may guest up to 6 players but roster size is limited to 10 total players.

2.) Midcontinent Cup – Recreational Division – for purely recreational U12 – U19 teams June 4-7 in Sioux Falls. Recreational teams may guest up to 6 players; providing they do not go over the allowable age group roster size. (U12 roster size limit is 14 players, U14 is 18 players, U16 and U19 is 25 players but guest players can only be added to U16 or U19 teams up to a total of 18 players total.) These guest players must be rostered to recreational only teams. No State Cup players may play as guests on any team playing in the Recreational Tournament. The Recreational Committee may consider exceptions to this on a team-by-team basis. These teams will play two games both days with multiple division championships.

Any recreational team using any method of selecting players other than random order will not be allowed to play in the Recreational Tournament but will instead be entered in the Classic Division. If a team requests to play in the Recreational Tournament, but numbers are not sufficient to support enough games for a team in that age/gender division, SDSSA reserves the right to move that team into the Classic Cup. Any team affected will be notified of this situation and will be allowed to cancel without penalty if desired.

3.) Midcontinent Cup – Classic Division - for U12-U19 competitive teams not participating in the SD Soccer State Cup, rec teams that are not randomly selected, and any interested recreational teams - June 4-7 in Sioux Falls (running concurrently with the Recreational tournament). The design of the Classic Cup is to give competitive teams not participating in the State Cup and any interested recreational team the opportunity to play for a single division championship.

The Classic tournament will have two divisions - Classic Rec for recreational teams and Classic Competitive for all club rostered teams not entered in 2010 State Cup tournament.  If there are not sufficient numbers to support enough games for teams in a specific age division for Classic Rec, SDSAS reserves the right to move that team into the Classic Competitive division and any team affected will be notified of this situation and will be allowed to cancel without penalty if desired.

Maximum of six guest players allowed on any Classic Cup team provided they do not go over the allowable age group roster size. No State Cup teams are allowed to play in the Classic Cup. No more than 3 players participating in the State Cup will be allowed to play on any one team playing in the Classic Cup as either regular rostered players or guest players. The Competitive Committee upon petition from affected teams may consider exceptions to these restrictions in rare circumstances.

No player may play on more than one team in the tournament.

The Midcontinent Cup Recreational and Classic divisions will be played on these days in Sioux Falls:
