State Tourneys ExplainedSDSSA will sponsor the following tournaments for the 2009 spring season: 1). State Cup - for club teams qualifying for the Region II Tournament - May 8, 9, and 10 in Pierre SD. The State Cup is the Tournament played to determine which club teams will advance to represent South Dakota at the Region II Tournament in Sioux Falls in June. 2). Midcontinent Cup – Recreational Division – for purely recreational U10 – U19 teams June 5-8 in Rapid City. The Recreational tournament will add U-10 teams this year, playing in a Festival format with each participating team getting 4 games (2 per day), no winners or losers and all participants receiving participation awards. In the Recreational division for U12 to U19 teams – each team will get 4 games and there will be multiple bracket winners within each age bracket. There will be no “Open” division in the Recreational Tournament this year. Recreational teams may guest up to 6 players; providing they do not go over the allowable age group roster size. These guest players must be rostered to recreational only teams. No State Cup players may play as guests on any team playing in the Recreational Tournament. The Recreational Committee may consider exceptions to this on a team-by-team basis. 3). Midcontinent Cup – Classic Division - for competitive teams not participating in the State cup and any interested recreational teams - June 5-8 in Rapid City (running concurrently with the Recreational tournament). The design of the Classic Cup is to give competitive teams not participating in the State Cup and any interested recreational team the opportunity to play for a single division championship. Any recreational team using any method of selecting players other than random order will not be allowed to play in the Recreational Tournament but will instead be entered in the Classic Cup. If a team requests to play in the Recreational Tournament, but numbers are not sufficient to support enough games for a team in that age/gender division, SDSSA reserves the right to move that team into the Classic Cup. Should that occur and the number of teams is sufficient to support it, the Competitive Committee at its sole discretion may allow that division to become a 2-tiered competitive tournament. Any team affected will be notified of this situation and will be allowed to cancel without penalty if desired. Maximum of six guest players allowed on any Classic Cup team provided they do not go over the allowable age group roster size. No State Cup teams are allowed to play in the Classic Cup. No more than 3 players participating in the State Cup will be allowed to play on any one team playing in the Classic Cup as either regular rostered players or guest players. The Competitive Committee upon petition from affected teams may consider exceptions to these restrictions in rare circumstances.
